On Friday, November 18, the Poulsbo Historical Society will host a presentation on the history of the Suquamish Tribe, featuring Leonard Forsman, Suquamish Tribal Council Chairman.
The Suquamish are a Lushootseed (Puget Salish) speaking people that traditionally lived along the Kitsap Peninsula, including Bainbridge and Blake Islands, across Puget Sound from present Seattle. Many of the present-day Suquamish live on the Port Madison Indian Reservation in the reservation towns of Suquamish and Indianola.
The program, presented by Leonard Forsman, will include the history of the Suquamish Tribe, early contact with European settlers, and an update on the new Suquamish Museum now under construction near downtown Suquamish. Much of the story will be told with historical photos. In addition, audience members will be offered an opportunity to share their experiences and memories about tribal history.
As a member of the board of directors of the Poulsbo Historical Society, I would be honored to have you attend.
